Play Dead by Anne Frasier

2.0

This book just felt like it was in a rush. The character development was fairly flat, and sparse in some regards. Nothing felt thoroughly examined. I always felt like I was missing something, partially due to the fact that the author used multiple POVs, but all third person, which was a bit disorienting, but then the chapters/segments were so short that you never really got to know any of the characters.

And to top it all off, the mystery was not very good and the twist was so-so. There wasn't a good balance of the folk magic versus detective stuff, so both aspects felt flat to me. I really wanted to like this book; I loved the Savannah witches series so I was eager to return to literary Savannah, but Frasier's glimpses were fleeting and unsatisfactory. I'd been tempted to buy these as an Amazon Kindle deal, but now I'm glad I read it on unlimited instead.
