The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen

Mini review!

The Truth About Forever was my second Sarah Dessen novel, and really: I see the appeal of her books. Even though I’ve only read two of them, I think it’s obvious that Sarah Dessen is a very gifted contemporary author, and a very consistent one at that. And much like Just Listen, I thought The Truth About Forever was delightful! Even more so, even. I liked how Dessen handled loss, and also the way every one of the characters dealt with it. I liked how the storylines of these characters came together, because not only Macy, but the entire cast of side characters was very well-written and worked out.

I liked how Macy learned to be less of a perfectionist, maybe because I felt the message was secretly directed at me as well. I thought the romance was adorable and definitely sa-woon-worthy, even though I would have liked things to work out sooner than they did. My only real issue with The Truth About Forever – but it may be Sarah Dessen’s writing style in general – is that there is a lot of telling. It’s not that I prefer action to explaining per se, but sometimes the lack of action caused me to get a bit distracted. Still, this book was pretty darn wonderful.
