Even darker than I'd expected based on the description, and the romance storyline felt very out of place and against the main character's previous struggle. "oh the status quo is terrible, I must escape it and/or help move it toward destruction" but then she gives up with only one slight change that could easily be reset? especially when that choice is due to "must preserve Ryker's precious baby and generally fall in line with what society expects" - meh. Went from pretty dark to "only a slight change is fine" so quickly.
