Legendborn is one of the best fantasy books I’ve read in a while.  There.  I said it.

Perfect for beginner fantasy readers, this book covers it all.  Deonn incorporates magic and fantasy into a world that is very much our own and steeped with all of our messy, horrible history.

I was so impressed with the skill with which Deonn seamlessly wove fantastical elements into a story about race, class, love, loss, and growing up.

I never would have thought I would enjoy a story about King Arthur, (and yes, I’ll admit, I was confused from about page 50-150) but I ended up loving it and finding myself gliding through the confusing part pretty easily.  I loved learning about the parallels between the original legend and the story of our girl Bree.

Honestly, the book deserves a whole damn essay.  Deonn clearly did her research.  She put so much care into taking real history from UNC and using it in this story, and with incorporating real elements of root craft into the narrative.  Both were fascinating to learn about!

TLDR: 10/10. Will always recommend.  Literally dying over here waiting for book 2.
