The themes and story of this installment in the series feel more relatable and uplifting in a way. As we explore healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics through the characters, we learn what can make someone with the best of intentions develop some frankly abusive behaviours.

There is plenty to be said about the romances and friendships Maas rights about, but while complex relationships feel like a strong point in her writing, the amount of exposition is disappointing from such a popular series. One of the most romantic scenes in this book loses its spark as Maas resorts to using one of the characters to sort of just verbally re-explain things from his perspective in a way that is frankly boring and tedious. At one point I threw my hands up and yelled 'Well why did I just read all of this then!'.

Great plot, uplifting character developments, lazy splotches of pure exposition in the last half.
