Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

2.0

“I am one of the Nephilim—the Shadowhunters. We are … a race, if you will, of people, people with special abilities. We are stronger and swifter than most humans. We are able to conceal ourselves with magics called glamours. And we are especially skilled at killing demons.”

*There are mild spoilers for The Mortal Instrument so proceed at your own risk*

This book was a copy of The Mortal Instruments with same characters but different names. Oh wait- did I say different names? Ha! Just look at the hard work C.C. did in naming her characters- Theresa Gray and Clarissa Fray (very different right?). Mrs Dark and Mrs Black and Theresa Gray. I'm glad there wasn't some Mrs White or Mrs Silver or we'd have had 50 shades of Gray in this book (iykwim).

Now Will Herondale = (dis)Jace (to) Herondale (you know he is a disgrace to Herondale). And how could we forget our lovely Simon Lewis? The guy who didn't get "the" girl? Oh wait- does this remind you of someone? Someone's who's a true gem in this book?

Then we have cheap versions of Isabelle Lightwood i.e. Jessamine and Jonathan Morgenstern i.e.
Spoiler Nathaniel Gray
too. I'm seriously happy that we didn't have a TID version of Alec because I'm not ready to destroy my Malec ship.

“A Downworlder is a being—a person —who is part supernatural in origin. Vampires, werewolves, faeries, warlocks—they are all Downworlders.”

Ok now that I have explained the biggest reason for not liking this book, let me give some more reasons for not liking it-

•Cliche plotline - Seriously the "person discovers that they have some special powers and are taken far away from their homes where they fall in love with some dark and mysterious person who acts like their sad story gives them the right to act like an asshole while thinking about if they would go back to their home when every problem was solved" has started to bore me a lot.

•Easy to guess plot twists- I don't need to say much.

•Stupidity of higher authorities - The Enclave seriously went to attack someone without much discussions while leaving behind four teenagers in the Institute where something very precious was kept. I don't know how someone could be so careless.

. “Whatever you are physically,” he said, “male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy—all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. Whatever the color, the shape, the design of the shade that conceals it, the flame inside the lamp remains the same. You are that flame.”

Now I have given enough reasons for not liking this book. But did I? Hehe no...there are few more reasons-

TESSA- She could die and I wouldn't care. She has no personality at all. Like have you ever heard of two dimensional or one dimensional characters? Well she is the epitome of existence of zero dimensional characters i.e. she exists but no one knows how and why.

WILL- I loved him...at first but now I finally hate him. He has a dark history? That's sad. But believe me there were other characters with a dark history too but the difference is that their histories were known (yeah I'm talking about Jem) so it doesn't matter right? Only characters with an unknown tragic past have the right to trash talk people right?

Ok that's enough of my rant. The only reason I gave this book 1.5 stars is because characters like Jem and Magnus exists. I love both of them. The world building and the writing style are good too but they are not the best I've ever read. It's fast paced too so those who like fast paced books might like it.

*clears throat* You should know that I have protected myself by pasting posters of Will and Jem all over my clothes and even my face so keep your stone's, tomatoes, eggs or whatever you were going to throw on me or you'll indirectly hurt Will and Jem which I don't think you'll like *backs away as quietly as possible*.
