It's hard for me not to compare this to a zombie apocalypse. The book opens with the blindness spreading slowly person to person, and eventually all of society decays, with a small band of characters having to fend for themselves in a world where everything has fallen apart. This is happens to be a good conceit from which to tackle uncomfortable ideas about society and I think it works a lot better than the zombie genre.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Violence, Pandemic/Epidemic
