I definitely had my expectations set too high after reading reviews that said the ending redeemed it for them. I was expecting something horrifying- and don't get me wrong, this book is horrifying, but I was expecting to throw up. The ending was NOTHING compared to the start for me.
My experience was a little bit like: exciting - disgusting - wanna crawl out of my skin - hate it(in a good way) - boring - more boring - oh something's happening - wtf ew - boring - why is he talking so much about rocks - oh the ending is coming - hate the energy we've created in the studio today.
NOW, in retrospect the ending absolutely isn't bad, it just isn't what I expected. Actually it was probably a very fitting ending for this story, but I was so bored from the middle of the book that I didn't even notice it. It was a sandwich of good bread, meh filling and cringy stone metaphors (also a part where I died because it's described that he barks, meows, and neighs among other things, and as if that wasn't enough it's read with the UTTERMOST seriousness).
Also, whoever wrote the blurb for this needs to get fired. False descriptions dude. Marcus does not ever treat Jasmine like a human being.
ALSO, I hate children.
