Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
2.0

I couldn't understand why I wasn't liking the book as I paged through it, because all the reviews I've read have been glowing. The pace was lightning fast, and I realized on page 21 that it was MUCH too fast. Gloria (a neighbor) comes over to speak to Ceecee's dad about her mother, and she tells him her concerns as he's unloading groceries, and then invites him over to speak in private. If Gloria knew that Ceecee's dad was kind of an asshole (and how could you not know what your best friend's husband was like) why would she ambush him like that?
Ceecee's mother's mental issues were a little too wooden for me, as well. I felt like R. L. Stine was writing those parts. I couldn't even get past the third chapter, so I don't know what it was that everyone else has been praising.
