marka24 's review for:
Day of the Oprichnik
by Vladimir Sorokin
The funny thing is that it's not over the top. It's a violent, grotesque, unpleasant fever dream which resonates so deeply and echoes the Russian zeitgeist. I have no idea what reading it in English must be like, but reading it in Russian is like if our collective psychosis wrote an earnest book about itself.
