Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy by Jostein Gaarder

3.0

This was a solid refresher on Western (with a small smattering of Eastern) philosophy. The characters and plot are devices to explain philosophical principles; this is not a traditional novel. I found myself skimming through the story to get to the actual philosophy sections. All in all, an enjoyable read if you want a snapshot of major philosophical ideas from antiquity to the moderns.
