Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik

5.0

Another excellent dragon-adventure. I love the way Novik tackles social issues and moral dilemmas. Rather than just arguing about what the right solution is, or creating a fantasy-world where everything just works out perfectly because it has to for the plot, she works from the normal constraints of reality and has intelligent characters who have to reason out what the best action is in the current moment. Sometimes that means taking baby steps towards a cause, and other times... full scale revolution. And regardless of the decision, there are consequences (often negative ones).

Temeraire continues to be an absolutely lovable character, and many other side characters get a chance to shine in this book (especially Granby, and Catherine Harcourt).

I'm excited to start book five!
