John Green tasked the Nerdfighter book club to read this book. This book excellently encapsulates the life of poverty in Annawadi, a slum in Mumbai. I find books like these hard to read because you feel guilty about existing in a society that doesn't go through these struggles but Behind the Beautiful Forevers allows you to see what it is like from the perspective of people who live in poverty who want to change how they live. Behind the Beautiful Forevers is an enlightening book on several families from this slum and allows you to understand what life is for these women, men, and children. It's really hard for someone who lives in a world of booming technology to get the big picture of what poverty is for people. The book was very fast but intricate in the details of Annawadi. I suggest this book for people who want to change poverty by helping people like the people in this book. It makes me want to stand up and do something because I understand how these people live. Now, what it's like in Annawadi will definitely be different for poverty elsewhere but seeing how this community act and react instills a hope that something can be done to people who want to change. Thank you John Green and my fellow nerdfighters for suggesting a good book to talk about. DFTBA
