King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

2.5

I was left disappointed throughout. The characters I had come to know and love really took a hit in this novel. Nina’s storyline was completely separate from that of Nikolai’s and Zoya’s, which made me feel like I was reading two different novels. The sad thing is that this novel started off strong in Zoya’s first chapter, but slowly got worse as it went on. Also, the magic system that we learned about in the Grisha Trilogy and Six of Crows was contradicted in this novel which made reading about the “new” way magic works very confusing at times. Needless to say, this was enjoyable enough for me to continue but not enough for the rating to go above a 2.5 stars.
