The Memory Book by Lara Avery
5.0

Received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Warning: This book will break your heart. THE MEMORY BOOK by Lara Avery is a breathtaking account of high school senior Sammie coming to terms with the knowledge that she will never get to live the life she had worked and planned for. During her senior year she is diagnosed with an incredibly rare genetic disorder called NCP, which means she will gradually (then very quickly) lose her memories, her ability to speak, walk, etc. In the tragic, yet hilarious words of Sammie “Your sh*t is f*cked.” The story is told through a variety of journal entries in a memory book, mainly from Sammie—but some from family and friends. It will make you laugh, cry, swoon… Yes. This one has ALL OF THE FEELS!

Lara Avery is a spectacular write and storyteller. You immediately feel as if you are Sammie and you are going through this hell, yourself. The characters are beautifully developed and the story is perfectly paced. She manages to approach something that could become so depressing and melodramatic, with humor and grace. You will not want this gorgeous story to end.

Perfect for fans of books like “All The Bright Places” or “The Fault in Our Stars.” Make sure to have some tissues handy. You’re going to need them.
