The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
5.0
The Girl on the Train is about a woman named Rachel who notices something unusual on her daily commute that changes her life as well as those lives around her. Based on the description of the book, I thought the story would only followed Rachel. Instead, the story follows the perspective of 3 women, Rachel, Megan, and Anna. I found it interesting that the story is told by days, and each chapter is a different woman’s perspective. The 3 women have different personalities, but none of them were rather likable as characters. Rachel is a lonely alcoholic, and I felt sorry for her when I learned about her past. I enjoyed reading her chapters the most, but Megan’s chapters were interesting because they were all flashbacks. I did not like Megan as a character though because she appears to have a perfect life with a loving husband, but she has secrets that made me lose respect for her. My least favorite character was Anna because based on first impressions I did not like her, so I did not care for her chapters. I only started to look forward to reading her chapters near the end of the book. By the end, I found Anna’s character more likable. I also did not expect the ending, but it was good. However, I wished the story wrapped up Anna and the minor characters better. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book even though it was a bit slow at times.
