The Girl Who Lived Twice by David Lagercrantz
3.0
So here we are: THE END.
THE END OF THIS SERIES.
Well, that was that.
Looking back on the series, I feel that there was not much depth. As I wrote in my earlier review (of book two), the book is more of a popcorn flick than an actual read. I walk away from this trilogy feeling like... well, that was a waste and 'fanfiction, am I right?'
This is pretty much what this series was. Fanficton of a trilogy with a purpose and a story to tell. Since the story got wrapped in three, I mean, where could one go? Oh, yes, Camila and Lisabeth. The showdown. The match. The apex of Lisabeth's past and future.
I feel Camilla is an interesting character. Yet, there was not a lot of depth to her. She spends the entire three books shouting, controlling, and whining. She uses her beauty to hook, line and sinker people. That's it though, an it was a shame since she is supposed to be taking over the criminal enterprise from their father. So, when this book seemed to focus on her, I was rather underwhelmed by her scenes and thought that there was no way they were going to wrap this up.
The book ends in such an odd way that you can't tell if this is really the end (as the author stated). Because after the climatic finale, and the small wrap up chapter between the characters you just sit there going 'well, that was a waste'.
I'm a little shocked that the author got paid to write fanfiction of a character and a book series that had such a strong meaning or background to it. This book series, this book in general, feels like a trilogy about two characters who bear striking similarities to two characters we saw in another trilogy... but solve crimes and one is unethical on how she obtains the information for the other to write his articles.
...
Yet I had fun reading them, but I wholeheartedly state that unless you're craving to read these, find them cheap or rent them. They're enjoyable but not worth keeping next to the original three.
