The Righteous by Renée Ahdieh
4.0

Although The Righteous wasn't the book I was expecting, it was still just as lovely as the previous two The Beautiful novels.

After the ending of The Damned, I expected more of the mystery storyline to come into play as well as the romance between Bastien and Celine. However, this didn't deliver much of that.

In The Righteous, it follows two side characters, Pippa and Arjun, who are basically the main characters of this novel. I wasn't a big fan of it at first, because I want Celine and Bastien 24/7. In The Righteous, we get a marriage of convenience between Pippa and Arjun, which I didn't expect, but the end result and romance were SO GREAT SO THANK YOU.

I think my main disappointment of this third installment bleeds into two different things.

My main complaint is we are introduced to a new character named Ali, who reveals himself to be a descendant of two other characters in Renee Ahdieh's previous series/ novels. This made me want to not read the other books because although I love things that take place in the same universe, I feel like now I have to read other things or that it was just rushed in there for **shock factor**.

The first 200 pages of the novel are completely Pippa and Arjun, but FINALLY, AT PAGE 204, WE GOT THE MAN HIMSELF, BASTIEN. <3 The Celine and Bastien content is exactly what I needed and once Arjun and Pippa embraced their new marriage and literal love for each other is when the book completely turned around for me. HOWEVER, THE ENDING IS MAKING ME UPSET AND I AM HURT.

There's also a new man added to the Celine-Bastien-Michael love pipeline thing, so hopefully, Ali is a redeemable character.
