When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
5.0
Wowwww what a strong start- just that prologue/gods sequence was so cool and really hooks you in. I love when within the first 2 chapters you already know it’s gonna be a good book. The world is so unique and probably of all fantasy books I’ve read feels the most different and interesting, I love it. There’s so many questions you have while reading which I absolutely love, and you can see all these story threads yet have no idea how they go together yet. I appreciate how nothing is over explained- many species and creatures and tools that are mentioned where enough is said that you understand what is going on but not overly explained that wouldn’t make sense for being in a first person POV. It’s so intelligently written, I love books that treat you like an intelligent reader and not one that needs to be hand fed information. KAAN VAEGOR- I’m obsessed. He’s so sweet and I’m so heartbroken for him, he’s so respectful and genuinely wants to love Raeve and not try to force her to be the Elluin he knows. I love that their chemistry and tension right from the start was because of true history that they share that she feels subconsciously. I love the little peeks we get into Kaan and Veya with their POVs. My heart broke so many times- Nee, Essi, honestly any talk about the dragons/moons, every beautiful complicated moment between Kaan and Raeve. So much is being set up for the next book and I’m so excited for it, there’s so much I want to know still. This book is so unique, I’ve never read anything like it and it was so easy to read- constantly kept you wanting to keep turning the page. The ending! Him letting her goooo. The other coming out again! Also seeing the revenge playing out through Rekk’s POV was so smart- let’s you see even more how disgusting he is, and genuinely feel the fear from seeing Raeve. THE EPILOGUE. The fact that I IMMEDIATELY want to reread the whole book now with all this new perspective. I did actually go back and read the early chapter where we meet Kyzari through Kaan because ITS HIS DAUGHTER. Wow I cannot believe I have to wait a year and a half for the next book this was perfection.
Here are all my questions that I can’t wait for the next book(s) to answer:
- how did Elluin actually die?
- How did she “become” Raeve?
- Everything about the whole Fire Lark story
- Everything about the scavenger king and how he got the princess
- Who is the Other? My theory is it’s Slátra (black eyes, likes to eat humans, fiercely protects Raeve)
- How much does Kyzari know?
