Stunner of a rapportage from the coal mines of England in the 1930s--he really feels for the folk, yet comes at it with a self-awareness of his own prejudices--a very valuable viewpoint for the history books. And then the other half of the book is more socialist and personal, interesting but sort of ill-fitting. No matter, Orwell fan here!
