Really interesting premise, but doesn’t follow through. It’s not really about the romance at all so much as it is about the friendship— which is pretty epic and almost a romance in and of itself (nearly sapphic). If this was framed around the friendship from the start, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. There’s also something  very basic in the details that are called out (the brand of clothes worn or when xyz was bought) that detracts from the mysticism of the premise and overall tone of something that could be very magical. I did feel compelled to finish it to know what happened, but was less and less intrigued as I got closer to the end.
