Everything I Never Told You is a very good novel. But it is what makes the novel good--it's compelling portrayal of characters' inner lives--that also makes it painful to read. It is hard being the only one who really understands everyone, especially when everyone is so so tortured! I wanted to leap into the novel's pages and shake the characters until they talked to each other. While the characters felt real, there were parts of the plot that were clunky and reminded me that I was reading something made up.
