Thank you to Harper Collins for our gifted copy!
I was absolutely sold as soon as I saw the quote from Ann Patchett on the cover. This book gives off major Patchett vibes, Margaret reflects on her tumultuous childhood now she is a mother herself, we dip back and forth between a past summer and the present.

The writing is beautiful and mediative, there is a lot to consider here about corrupted family relationships and all the messy emotions which go along with it. Margaret was sexualised too early, no regard given to her body autonomy, seen as an object and not a human being. Now as a mother to daughters she is trying to reconcile this. I thought Margaret's examination of her childhood was expertly crafted, I was drawn in immediately and only came up for breath at the end. This novel is introspective, moving and also is Honor Jones's debut (!!) novel, I am so keen to see what she writes next.
Dark themes are explored, please check the trigger warnings if there is anything that concerns you.
