Ever since my friend @alexs_book_hoard shared this one, it has been on my list. I set a reminder for the date it came out, and I’m so glad I did. As someone getting back into paranormal/supernatural stories, this was fantastic and makes me happy I’m exploring shifter romances.

I loved nearly everything about this book. Jade and West are such fun characters to be in the heads of, especially as they try to do what they think is best for the people around them. They often don’t focus on themselves, which does have some negative ramifications at times, but it’s nice to watch them (mostly Jade) open up to each other and find balance.

I love character development, and we really see Jade come a long way. She is so closed off at the beginning, and it’s great to see her walls come down when she realizes she can have happiness and that people can really just be there for her with no ill intentions. West certainly works for it, but it does feel natural and not over the top. He bids his time until he can’t anymore, and even then, he still doesn’t push.

Though I haven’t read the previous series by the authors set in the same universe, I felt like I was given plenty of information about the world and how it impacts the characters and plot. I am super excited to see how some of this information comes into play as I read the other series and as the Timber Creek series continues. In particular, I need to know more about how some of the different hybrids came to be.

That said, the third act conflict came with 10% left in the book, so its execution and solution felt a bit too quick compared to the rest of the story. It was nice it didn’t go for too long, but I think it would’ve made more of an impact if it was given a bit more time to breathe.
