Happy Place by Emily Henry

3.0

3.5 stars rounded down. Hmm, I’m really not sure how I feel about this one. The writing is objectively good. I love the friendships and the discussions of growth and maintaining friendship through change. The simple message (explained in somewhat profound ways) that family is not blood but those who love you through all. However, I didn’t love this couple. And, the message that a couple needs to “fight” to be happy. The miscommunication between the main couple frustratingly lasted from the first page until the last 10 pages of the book. It was redundant and not fun to read about. The whole book made me feel extreme melancholy, and the few “happy” scenes made me hurt with even more sadness. I did not have a fun time with ANY it. There really was nothing happy about either main character, and the FMC’s unhappiness in her relationship, job, and in her friendships took way too long to fully resolve (or never fully resolved). Overall, without trying to sound like a broken record, I did not have a good time with this book at all, even the final resolution and HEA, which breaks my heart because I usually love Em Hen.
