The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
3.5
funny reflective slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

It offers a biting, insider's look into the notoriously demanding and often cutthroat world of high fashion, seen through the eyes of an idealistic aspiring journalist, Andrea Sachs.

The novel excels in its unflinching portrayal of a toxic work environment, detailing Miranda's impossible demands, constant belittling, and the sheer exhaustion Andy endures. The author's writing vividly captures the psychological toll of working under such a powerful, yet abusive, figure, making readers both empathetic to Andy's plight and horrified by the pervasive fear and pressure within the prestigious fashion empire.

Despite its charm, the novel isn't without flaws like predictability and pacing of narrative. Still, the novel shines in its portrayal of how easy it is to lose oneself in the pursuit of success—and the courage it takes to walk away. It’s a fun, relatable read for anyone who’s ever had a nightmare boss or questioned if a dream job is worth the sacrifice.
