Well I was definitely engaged with this throughout and couldn’t wait to hear what was coming. I went through it, as loooong as it was, in a couple of days (7 hrs listening time.)

There’s a lot going on with some complex twists happening. Having said that there’s still a heavy YA feel to the characters even thought they’re all late 20s+.

By the time I got to the end though, the epilogue killed it for me. Some of it was needed but it also created a loophole I can’t look past.

I didn’t like the narration. It’s over acted and difficult to listen to for hours on end. I got used to it but, blech.

Spoilers follow re what I’m not cool with.

If Billy’s mom thought Jack was having an affair with the teen daughter, that’s one thing. But in the epilogue Billy says mom also suspected dad of killing Emily and that’s why she left. Ummm, if I suspect my partner killed a mistress I am NOT leaving my kid behind with them.

The storyline about Sophie changing out Scott’s meds never goes anywhere. There’s no retribution other than her knowing Luke was told.

And okay, Jack is Luke’s dad and he’s trying to help and protect him, but seriously at the expense of his other son? So much so that not only does he not afford Billy the same protection, Jack takes it a step further and tries to frame him.

Sorry-I can’t.

What to expect:

  • Twists
Audiobook:
  • Single narrator

Pacing:
Engaging/Long

Recommend:
The story was engaging, so there’s that. I guess if you have FOMO go with it.
