A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

I nearly didn't read this. And that would have been a HUGE mistake.
I enjoyed the first book but the character pairings didn't make sense to me, I wasn't blown away and it felt at times too close to a beauty and the beast retelling. The first book ended with enough resolution that I thought I'd just stop there but then I read and watched reviews that told me the books only got better from there so I gave this a chance.

I'm SO glad I did. If ACOTAR is the world exposition then ACOMAF is where we really get going. The decision making by the characters makes more sense in ACOMAF the bonds and relationships feel more of genuine and I was immediately more invested. There is still elements of 'lets not tell feyre anything and keep her in the dark' which can be frustrating but the motives for this are clearer.

The addition of the night court characters are incredible the personalities tension and friendship is unmatched.

Sexual tension between Rhys and Feyre is incredible and what I was expecting and missing from the first book. Chapter 54 is one of the most beautiful and endearing chapters of a book I've read in a long time. Stakes feel higher and there's incredible twists and revelations at the end. I'm now hooked and can't wait to continue
