This book was a bit hard for me to get into. But I persevered and it was totally worth it. The writing gets better with each book. This one mostly lays a foundation for the series and once you get halfway through book two, you’ll be so glad you kept going! I listened to Andrew Peterson read it himself on Audible and highly recommend reading that way. He knows the characters and does all the voices.
