The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett

4.0

Seems strange being a long term fan of the fantasy genre and never having read any work by Terry Pratchett but for some reason his books never really appealed. I've always preferred epic fantasy, or Grimdark or any of a dozen similar sub divisions of the fantasy genre; I like humorous stories but not as part of my fantasy diet. Or at least, this is what I felt before reading The Colour of Magic (Sorry I'm British and I refuse to misspell the word 'colour':P)
Pratchett's humour reminds me of Douglas Adam's humour in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy only set in a fantasy world. There were times when what I read caused a quirky smile and others an outright chuckle. Lots of interesting characters of course throughout though I did feel at times that the story was just something chucked into the mix to give those same characters a reason to be. I look forward to reading more books by Pratchett in due course.
