Vita Nuova
by Dante Alighieri
I read the Dante Gabriel Rossetti translation, which is translated into poetry, and not a literal transcription.
Some readers complain about the amount of exposition/explanation the author gives his own poems, but for those unfamiliar with reading medieval poetry, it’s helpful for understanding. I do agree that this is the work of an immature lovesick whiner, but an important read if you’re getting into Dante or medieval Italian poets.
