Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry

How are these books so addicting?? As with the first book, this book starts out feeling cheesy and hard to take seriously. It’s a little too insta-lovey, and the way the romance is describe has me so embarrassed sometimes. AND YET. I am SO drawn in every time! I think it’s because the author does a great job of fleshing out the main characters. Breanna felt like a Mary Sue to me at first and Razor the typical bad boy, but slowly those tropes are morphed as the plot develops and backstory revealed. One example is Breanna’s sister. We don’t really find out until the end how serious her sister’s suicide attempt was and how much of an impact that has on shaping Breanna as a person. The same goes with Razor and what happening with his mom. And by the end of the book you can see exactly how they’ve changed as people. Razor learns to trust. Breanna learns to accept herself. I think that’s what really nails it on the head for me. Is the romance cheesy at times? Sure, but I love cheese. Is the plot sort of silly (the picture blackmail plot felt a little weak at times)? To me, yeah it was. But as a reader I could see why it was important, so it worked. Looking forward to the next book.
