A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

4.0

4.5 Really. I read the book with little preconceptions despite both the negative and positive buzz around it and was pleasantly surprised. I don't think it was given a fair chance as it was immediately compared to other novels with magical plot points and life or death consequences. I found this book really refreshing as the main character comes off as more of an antihero. This was also the first book where I related to the main character in my own way and I also felt represented by. In regards to the backlash, although I don't speak for all black or mixed-race people I wasn't really offended by the points others were, I appreciate the attempt at inclusivity and or diversity.
