On the one hand, I found this book disturbing--I didn't realize from the book jacket how dark it would be (I should have looked at the content warnings beforehand...). And yet by the time I realized that, I felt invested in the book; I didn't want to give up on it even though I found it hard to get through at times. The characters and story gripped me, the writing was excellent, and it was a novel and compelling exploration of women's issues.
Graphic: Child death and Suicide attempt
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Incest, and Rape
