We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal
slow-paced
5.0
I LOVED this book, it reminded me of how I felt while reading the Inkworld series in middle school. The writing was so well done; it is perfectly descriptive, detailed and almost poetic at times, which leads to this truly fantastic world building. There is this beautiful way Hafsah includes all these little details to really put you into this world without them feeling like intentional world building, once you start to look for all the descriptor words it seems like a lot but while you are reading you truly don’t notice because of how well integrated it is into the story. This does lead into my only (personal) issue with the book; the pace. Yes, this is a slow book and it should be; do not get me wrong, none of this book needs to be written faster, because you would probably then lose the essence of what makes the writing so amazing. That being said the first probably 20-30% I found really hard to stay focused on because it was a bit too slow…for me; if you are ok with slower paced books then you may not have this issue but I went into this prepared for a slow paced book and struggled with just how slow it was. I worked around this by re-reading right after I finished, to essentially fill in the gaps of what I couldn’t retain the first time(but I need to do this for a solid half of the SFF books I read).
