A Clubbable Woman by Reginald Hill

i read on beulah height last year and loved it, so i'm going back to the start of this series.

halfway through and this book is entertaining me; i think i was subconciously expecting to be disappointed so perhaps my low expectations are making this book seem better than it is. but i don't think so - i like the characters - i'm thinking that the plot might turn out to be a little thin, but i'll have to read the rest of it first...

but the plot did, happily, turn out pretty well. nothing special but a perfectly competent first book in the series, i'll keep reading.
