The concept of this book is killer. I absolutely love the dual timeline approach.
However. Something about this book just teetered into frustrating for me. There were a lot of characters to track, and I wish there would've been fewer of them with more personality so their fates would feel more impactful. While the setting was definitely a mysterious, intriguing place, some of the descriptions began to feel repetitive.
I am a big fan of unexplained mysteries and phenomena, but some of my interest in them fizzled out towards the end of the book. I have no strong feelings about the ending-- the book simply... ended, and I closed it and moved on.
