The Witch's Heart
by Genevieve Gornichec
Vaguely familiar Norse mythology so this was a fun way to learn the details of some of their stories. I wonder if this is where Christians got the underworld term “hell” from and then in turn the saying “go to hell.”
When I picture a Nordic seer, a goddess of destruction, I picture a lion hearted woman who would fiercely protect or avenge her children. I didn’t get my formidable giantess here.
Angrboda is depicted in this retelling as a codependent side chick to Loki who accepts Lokis toxic behavior and lies. I wanted more FROM her and FOR her.
The story was a little slow for me, there was a lot of dialogue and time spent in the cave waiting around on Loki. The last like 30-50 pages felt like mythology info dumping.
I enjoyed becoming familiar with the tale of Ragnarok, just really wish it were shown from the eyes of a strong female character.
