This was a lovely book. I really enjoyed reading it and I managed to devour it so quickly I feel like I have whiplash: it was action-packed, non-stop, from the very abrupt beginning to the very sweet, very satisfactory epilogue.
I adored both of the MCs: Dmytro with his no-nonsense attitude, his way of showing care, his general badass sexiness, and his quest to redeem his violent past really made me feel for him. Plus, his relationship with his daughters? I literally swooned. Ajax was a bit more tough to like initially, because he's done (and keeps doing) really stupid shit, but he's very sensitive too, and clever and sweet and the way he was with Dmytro melted my heart. I have some minor complaints: mainly, because this book was so action-packed, the relationship between the two MCs felt kind of sudden. However, this is a me-problem: insta-lust is okay and hot, but I usually find insta-love a bit cringy. This wasn't insta-love, but I would have loved to see their relationship and chemistry develop a bit more before the epilogue. My other complaint (if I can call it that: it's more of a disappointed groan) was that I was expecting a bit more of steam: some of the things Ajax thought and the way those two acted together seemed to promise lots and lots of steam (and maybe, possibly, daddy kink or D/s undertones) but unfortunately there wasn't much of either. THANKFULLY, there's a delicious short story you can download after you finish reading: it completely satisfied my unanswered sexy-times questions and whew, it was steamy and sweet and romantic.
I really loved this story! I'm not sure if the author has anything else planned for the future for these two or for any other characters that appeared but I'll be looking foreward to reading it. Very much recommend.
Thank you GRR for an ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.
