Between Us
by Mhairi McFarlane
thank you to harper collins for sending me this beautiful book! i can’t believe i haven’t picked up a book by mhari before and after this one i for sure will be again. if you love an intricate story woven with the reality of relationships of all kinds this is for you! this book begins during what should have been a fun weekend for Roisin and her long time partner Joe but it leaves Roisin questioning the relationship as a result of his new tv show he wrote. during her summer break she goes back to her roots and not only faces her built up feelings of this breakup but is forced to deal with family trauma and a new friendship/partnership that leaves her questioning everything. i really enjoyed this and it reminded me of a Sally Rooney book in a way as it communicated relationships in such a beautiful, horrifying but realistic way that I have only seen done through Rooney. I loved how we went through the motions with Roisin during every phase of her relationship falling to pieces and how she and the people around her helped her pick them back up. Please go give this one a try
