Ice Dogs
by Terry Lynn Johnson
I really enjoyed this novel of a 14-year-old girl who loves mushing and racing dog-sleds. This story not only has her saving a teen about her age and then living by their wits for four days in the bitter late winter in Alaska, but has her dealing the with grief from the death of her father and the strained relationship with her mother. Nice additions should help many more girls enjoy the outdoor survival novel and perhaps learn more about outdoor sports like sled-dog racing themselves. i do think I appreciated this novel more because I had recently read Paulson's book about his dogs and racing, Woodsong. Those dogs are amazing, and so must the people be who race them.
