Panic
by Lauren Oliver
This book was a mess.
The Panic game vascillated between cringey and fucked up and it felt like Lauren Oliver couldn't decide whether she should go with The Hunger Games or Truth or Dare. The end result is a super lame game with low stakes and mechanics that I didn't care about.
I was invested more in the character back stories than the game itself, and I would've enjoyed this more if Lauren Oliver had leaned into it as a hard-hitting contemporary about impoverished kids stuck in hopeless situations.
Instead she gave us....tigers?
The fuck?
