Rent to Be
by Sonia Hartl
This is my second Sonia Hartl book but unfortunately both have ended up being 2 stars so I don't think I'll be reading any more of her books. More than anything I have just found them both boring (and the first book I read was a sapphic vampire revenge story!?) which is one of the worst things a book can be for me.
Rent to be is about Isla and her brothers best friend who's name ive already forgotten. For me the romance wasn't doing it, they'd been friends since childhood but then only just did some fake dating but were always in love? It felt rushed and messy and not in a good way. Despite being marketed as a romance, most of the book was actually about Isla's struggles with life after graduation, mainly her employment, renting, income, and just being part of the capitalist machine. That part I found more interesting than the romance but after a while it was very repetitive and I just didn't care about any of it anymore. A disappointing book overall and I will be unhauling it
