honestly given how the atla writers dealt with suki in the original (don't get me wrong I adore her but she still deserved better from the writers), I'm not at all surprised at how pointless this was. I enjoyed reading more about suki's past and just kyoshi island as a whole, but... that's pretty much all this had going for it. the boiling rock didn't feel as threatening as it was in the show, and I think they should have done all the additional suki information/characterisation in the show instead of relying on outside material to flesh her out even the slightest bit more. overall it was redundant and pointless despite how much I love suki.
