The Path Keeper
by N.J. Simmonds
The premise of The Path Keeper is really up my street - I love fantasy and I love YA and it’s this that kept me engaged. I really struggled to connect with most of the characters especially Ella and her mother. I found it really difficult to reconcile her mother as she is now compared to when she herself was young and has escaped her father. At first I found the flashback scenes a little confusing as I wasn’t sure how they were connected to the now, but as the story unfolded it started making sense. That’s some clever plotting by Simmonds. In fact it was the flashbacks that I found the most enjoyable, along with the ending.
