The Dagger and the Forbidden Heir by Emilia Jae, Emilia Jae
5.0

“A small giggle left the chest I was holding so tightly to my ear. I lowered her body down to see a mischievous grin spread across her filthy, infuriatingly beautiful face, and the dagger held in her hand, pointed directly at my throat.”

What a powerful series! I was hooked from the very first chapter. Lia is a warrior with a heart of gold, and seeing her compassion for the humans was heartbreaking. Her bond with the king however, was my favourite thing. I have a soft spot for daughter-fathers relationships.

“There was never a moment in my life that you were not wanted, Elianna. I could not be prouder of you. It kills me every day to not be able to name you as my heir.”

This books are fast paced and filled to the brim with action. All the characters are so interesting, and are intricate parts of the story. The villains are villaining, the romance is romancing and everything is crafted in the perfect measure.
Lia our protagonist is absolutely delightful. I love reading about strong women and she is a powerhouse. She can fight and she does it well. She is the commander of her army and earned the respect of her peers, whilst enduring the cruelty of the Queen and prince.

Killian is the perfect villain, definitely wicked, with rotten morals and repulsive thoughts, but his POVS were truly intriguing and I could not stop wanting to read.

And Jace!! Wow. That was a true enemies to lovers encounter. I loved reading about their journey and the slow relationship building. It was sweet and vulnerable.

Finally, the found family. I am not gonna spoiler anything, but it was truly one of the highlights of the book. Of both sides ;)
