I enjoyed the book. While it was about slavery and the abolitionist movement/railroad, the author also introduced other ways in which the black community was targeted by racism, even under the guise of "helping them". Some of the things that happened in the book were hard to read - rather horrific, but sadly I'm sure more than accurate. I am not sure why I feel like this is a 3.5 star instead of a 4, but I think because I didn't feel as invested in the main character as I like to be. She was hard to get close to - I'm sure this was on purpose.
Graphic: Torture
Minor: Rape
