Canto Bight (Star Wars): Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Mira Grant, Rae Carson, Saladin Ahmed

4.0

I really loved this collection. Each story was set solidly in the Star Wars universe. Technically, yes, they could've been dropped into just about any sci-fi verse, but all four writers honed in on something so indescribably Star Wars that I never left Cantonica. Canto Bight is an important locale in the current Star Wars universe and story, and at their best these stories helps make the Canto Bight setting far richer.

Saladin Ahmed's "Rules of the Game" featured wonderful characters that I couldn't help but cheer on, even when they were making bad choices. Canto Bight is definitely not a place for the (mostly) pure of heart.

Mira Grant’s story about a non-human space sommelier and the quest for "The Wine In Dreams" is everything I wanted from this book. I'm dying for the twins to show up on film. Really brilliant.

John Jackson Miller's "The Ride" was really wonderful. It could have been a very predictable story but there were so many twists and turns it really lived up to its name.

Rae Carson's "Hear Nothing..." wasn't a big hit for me. I can't pinpoint why, but it didn't engage me like the others did, and I felt like it ran long even though they were all about equal in length.

Highly recommended overall!
