Casey & Eric are back, their newly built and mostly finished sanctuary for those that need to disappear is succeeding. They have just recently accepted a mother and her two sons, a first for Haven’s Rock (Rockton never allowed children), and now the youngest has gone missing after probably sighting a bigfoot type in the forest. This is the Yukon, maybe he just saw a bear? Casey & Eric don’t believe in coincidence, nor do they think this young man knows what he saw, so they gather up their dog Storm, and start the search. What they find staggers them, and in turn causes their tension to go up several notches. 

 

Kelley Armstrong is an auto-buy for me (with the exception of the new horror she’s been writing, I have to think about those before I purchase).I utterly adored the Rockton series, and the spin-off of Haven’s Rock is exactly the same. I love the dynamic between Casey & Eric, I like the side characters that came along with them, I even like Casey’s sister. Although this story didn’t hit it out of the ballpark with a perfect score, it’s just as strong, and I have no intention of not continuing to read the series. Fast reads, adventurous, and delightfully hopeful.
