Islands of Abandonment by Cal Flyn

adventurous challenging informative slow-paced

It has taken me a long time to finish this book. Whilst it's incredibly interesting, I'd admittedly had preferred this in the form of a documentary or podcast as it was a very heavy read.

The book visits different places that have gone through varying scenarios that have left them abandoned and fending for themselves. Some places I'd heard of and some I've not, it was fascinating to learn the history of them all, as well as getting to see how the earth finds a way to come back to itself, even in the most unexpected of places.

However, I felt the book over descriptive with a lack of feeling. All of the wonderful feeling and introspection happened in the last two chapters, sitting heavily in the last 20 pages. I wish more of that was weaved into every single story, not only making the book more digestible but also adding that dimension which felt like it was missing.
